Gal Gadot’s rise to fame has been phenomenal, to put it mildly. But up until this point, everyone has probably been aware of her terrifying experience on the set of the 2017 film, Justice League.
Justice League, the 2017 film starring Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot, was and is still the subject of multiple controversies, many of which center on the director, Joss Whedon. For the unversed, the film’s original director, Zack Snyder, had to step down from his position due to the tragic death of his daughter.
As a result, Whedon took charge of the project to rewrite the script and re-shoot scenes with the original cast. But this drastically altered Snyder’s original vision, leading to largely negative reviews from both fans and critics.
Much attention has been paid in recent years to the film’s troubled production history. Ray Fisher, who played Victor Stone/Cyborg in the movie, was at the center of the controversy, as he was the most outspoken of the whole cast.
Gal Gadot Confirmed To Be Verbally Abused During Justice League ReshootGal Gadot made her first appearance as the renowned DC Superhero Diana Prince/Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder‘s Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. She later went on to reprise this superhero role in Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman.
Jenkins and Snyder, both have only received high praise from the Israeli actress-model.
However, when questioned about Justice League, the actress claimed she was taken aback by Joss Whedon‘s treatment of her on set. Further, she also mentioned having immediately notified WarnerMedia’s management of what had happened.
The Red Notice actress, who is well-known for playing the strong and empowering Wonder Woman, once told Elle:
“I was shaking trees as soon as it happened. And I must say that the heads of Warner Brothers, they took care of it. Going back to the sense of righteousness that I have…you’re dizzy because you can’t believe this was just said to you. And if he says it to me, then obviously he says it to many other people. I just did what I felt like I had to do. And it was to tell people that it’s not OK.”
Additionally, the 38-year-old actress questioned whether Whedon would have spoken to her in the same way if she was a male actor.
“Would he tell me what he told me had I been a man? I don’t know. We’ll never know — I was shocked by the way that he spoke to me. But whatever, it’s done. Water under the bridge.”
During her appearance on Israeli television, Gadot once claimed that Whedon threatened to ruin her career. Additionally, the Wonder Woman actress expressed support for one of her Justice League co-stars in an interview with the LA Times.
This Justice League Actor Was the First to Attack Joss WhedonIn a public attack in July 2020, Justice League actor, Ray Fisher claimed that Joss Whedon had used foul language while filming. In addition, the actor criticized producers Jon Berg and Geoff Johns, claiming that they had encouraged the Serenity director’s actions.
Fisher’s tweet read:
Joss Wheadon’s on-set treatment of the cast and crew of Justice League was gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable.
He was enabled, in many ways, by Geoff Johns and Jon Berg.
The 35-year-old actor’s allegations prompted WarnerMedia to launch a separate investigation into the alleged mistreatment on the Justice League set.
According to Variety, the company disclosed that the investigation was over in December 2020 and that “remedial actions” had been taken. However, it gave no information about what those actions were, or any insights about the investigation reports.
Moreover, in November 2020, Whedon departed from his HBO Max series, The Nevers. But he later insisted that it was difficulties brought on by the pandemic that had forced him to leave.
Well, you can watch Justice League currently streaming on Max.
