Netflix may be notorious for sabotaging anime’s reputation with mediocre live-action movies and TV shows, but it also offers an ever-growing catalog of Japanese anime, the majority of which are a solid 8 out of 10 in rating. While it failed to recreate the live-action experience for popular anime series like Death Note, Attack on Titan, and Cowboy Bebop, it did succeed in producing some enthralling anime shows, including Castlevania, Yasuke, Levius, and the topic of the day, Kengan Ashura.
Kengan Ashura is a martial arts anime based on a Japanese manga written by Yabako Sandrovich and illustrated by Daromeon. The series, released in July 2019 as ONA (Original Net Animation), depicts a world where the strong thrive, and the weak perish, as most business deals are finalized through combat in a grand arena. Even though four years have passed since the anime’s release, the anticipation for a second season is never out of the audiences’ desire. That being said, here’s everything we know so far about Kengan Ashura season 2, including its plot, cast, trailer, and more.
Kengan Ashura Season 2: The Plot

Netflix
Given that the first season has been out for many years, fans prefer to re-watch it before moving on to the second season. While that’s a great alternative, let’s take a quick look at what transpired in Kengan Ashura’s first season. The anime introduced us to the world of Kengan, where business deals are not implemented through usual meetings or contracts but rather in the form of a brutal sport: a fight to the death.

Enter Ohma Tokita, a fighter notoriously known as “The Ashura,” who wants to prove he is the strongest and is recruited by Kazuo Yamashita, a member of the Nogi Group. The second half of the first season put Ohma in front of numerous challenges, including the brutal fight with Kuro Raian, who nearly killed him, but he came out on top and advanced to the quarter-finals. Given how the fights organized by Kengan Association are still in the quarter-finals, there are a few more essential clashes to look forward to before moving on to the big stage, which is the final.
Just as in the first season, which placed enough significance on other fights rather than solely focusing on the main character, we are bound to see some epic clashes in the second season. In particular, the confrontation between Gaolang and Agito is expected to be the pinnacle of Kengan Ashura by manga readers.
Considering that Netflix hasn’t released an official trailer yet, we can only glean so much from the brief teaser, which provided us with a glimpse of the battles we’ll be witnessing in the second season. It should be an exciting season seeing as how Netflix didn’t change the 3D animation style but instead improved on what the first season lacked.
Kengan Ashura Season 2: The Cast & Crew
Netflix
Although Kengan Ashura doesn’t rely too much on dialogue, as most of its runtime is allocated to the battles, the cast members do play an interesting role in elevating the experience. Since the second season is a continuation of an entire arc, we will see the return of several characters from the first one.
Tatsuhisa Suzuki reprises his role as the main protagonist Ohma Tokita, delivering an impeccable voiceover for such a menacing character.
The actor is popularly known for his roles as Shiva in Record of Ragnarok, Ken in Tokyo Revengers, Ban in The Seven Deadly Sins, and Makoto Tachibana in Free! Aside from his anime roles as a voice actor, he is also well known for voicing Usada Lettuce in Kamen Rider, which is one of Japan’s most successful productions to date.

Meanwhile, Yamashita Kazuo, who was initially believed to be a side character, will be voiced by Cho, the same actor from the first season. He’s best known for his previous voice acting roles as Brook in One Piece, Victor in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Woz in Eureka Seven, and Jaken in Inuyasha.
The second season will also see the return of many supporting cast members, including Kenjirou Tsuda as Gaolong, Tomoyo Kurosawa as Karla, Junya Enoki as Cosmo, Teshou Genda as Gensa, Akio Ootsuka as Agito, and many others.
As for the main crew members working on the upcoming season, Netflix hasn’t divulged much information except a few details. Seiji Kishi, best known for his work on Angel Beats!, Assassination Classroom, and Asobi Asobase, will return to direct the series. The anime’s theme song is composed by BAND-MAID, best known for their performances in Platinum End and Log Horizon and SiM, whose previous anime-related works include Attack on Titan: The Final Season and Rage of Bahamut: Genesis. Larx Entertainment will also return to animate the second season. The studio is renowned for its works Tekken: Bloodline, Soul Worker, and Monsuno: World Master.
