Solo Leveling is a name that resonates with every webtoon reader because it not only paved the way for RPG and dungeon comics in Korea but has also been consistently at the top for years. While the artwork in the webtoon is exceptional and noteworthy, even when compared to the likes of Tower of God, The God of High School, and Eleceed, Solo Leveling has a unique approach to captivating the reader: elevations.
When the Solo Leveling anime was announced in early 2023, many fans were ecstatic that their favorite webtoon had finally received a well-deserved adaptation. Many anime enthusiasts, however, are still a bit reluctant to accept any animation studio other than Ufotable, which animated masterpieces such as Demon Slayer, Fate, and God Eater.
While whether the current animation studio, A-1 Pictures, does the webtoon justice is up for another debate, here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming anime Solo Leveling.
Solo Leveling: The Plot
Solo Leveling has grown immensely popular in the last few years, thanks to the success of both the webtoon and the novel. At this point, many fans have already gone through the story at least once, if not multiple times. Nevertheless, let’s find out what’s in store for the anime viewers when the highly anticipated series premieres.
When mysterious gates appeared in the world ten years ago, everything changed. The peaceful world has been turned into a hunting ground for maniacal monsters, with the land brimming with magic and bestowing powers on individuals known as “Hunters.” In the present, Sung Jin Woo, often mockingly referred to by his peers as the weakest hunter even in the E-Rank, works tirelessly to take care of his younger sister, Sung Jin Ah, and medically induced mother.
However, his fate changes forever when a typical dungeon hunt goes awry, and a double dungeon appears within. What begins as a nightmare that nearly kills his entire party and himself grants him power through a system interface, helping him to become the strongest hunter in the world, if not the entire universe. While many mysteries await unraveling, Sung Jin Woo’s only goal is to get out of his pathetic predicament and protect his family and the world from impending calamities.
Although the concept of dungeons, monsters, and hunters isn’t new in the world of video games and RPG novels, Solo Leveling provided a valuable experience for its readers, and there is nothing more they want apart from seeing it animated and, if possible, a live-action series done right.

Solo Leveling anime boasts a rather experienced cast, and it is utterly necessary to bring out the best in Sung Jin Woo and other characters like Cha Hae In. Taito Ban voices Sung Jin Woo, the anime’s main protagonist, who begins as the world’s weakest hunter and undergoes a supreme transformation to become the strongest hunter in existence.
The actor is best known for his previous roles as Soyuz in Dr. Stone, Spider in Vinland Saga, Fujimiya Amane in The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, and Robthor Udgard in How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom.
As the title suggests, there are no other main characters in the anime because it places a significant emphasis on Sung Jin Woo’s character and builds the story around him. While not all the supporting cast has been revealed, such as the voice actors for notable characters Beru, Igris, Lee Joo Hee, and Hwang Dong Suk, we do have the information regarding a few other essential characters.
While Genta Nakamura (Shadows House) and Banjou Ginga (Baki) voice Yoo Jin Ho and Go Gun Hee, Reina Ueda (Mashle) and Makoto Furukawa (Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead) voice the characters Cha Hae In and Woo Jin Chul. Meanwhile, the other prominent characters, Baek Yoon Ho and Choi Jong In, the two fascinating S-rank hunters who desperately try to recruit Hunter Sung Jin Woo into their guilds, are voiced by Hiroki Touchi (The Garden of Sinners) and Daisuke Hirakawa (Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train) respectively.
Solo Leveling is directed by Shunsuke Nakashige, who previously worked on Chainsaw Man, Sword Art Online: Alicization, Attack on Titan, and many other visually stunning anime shows. While Noboru Kimura, well-known for his previous works Knight’s & Magic and Gangsta, is responsible for series composition, Tomoko Sudou, who worked on Seven Deadly Sins, Blue Exorcist, and Silver Spoon, is in charge of character design.
