Sylvester Stallone Says Bruce Willis’ Lack of Contact With Him Is Sad

When Bruce Willis announced that he would be retiring from acting after being diagnosed with aphasia earlier this year, many of the action hero’s former co-stars came out in a show of support for him.

Among them was Sylvester Stallone, who appeared with Willis in The Expendables franchise. During Stallone’s recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the star commented on Willis’ struggle and how it “kills him” to see it happening to someone he considers a close friend.

Bruce Willis racked up 145 movie and TV roles since making his first uncredited appearance in 1980, and while he has dabbled in many genres, his role in Die Hard secured his place in history as an unlikely action hero.

Having gone on to reprise his role as John McClane in several sequels, he expanded his action roles with movies like The Siege, RED and The Expendables.

Having first starred alongside Stallone in the latter of these, the pair reunited on The Expendables 2 and even though that was now a decade ago, it is clear that the pair continues to have a long-standing friendship.

Commenting on Willis, Stallone said: “Bruce is going through some really, really difficult times… So he’s been sort of incommunicado. That kills me. It’s so sad.”

The simple answer is no. While Willis’ character, Mr. Church, was dropped from The Expendables 3 due to a minor spat between him and Stallone, the pair soon put those differences aside and have been friends ever since.

Had Willis not been diagnosed with aphasia, then there is every possibility he might have made an appearance in Stallone’s final run-out as Barney Ross in The Expendables 4.

However, with Willis having wrapped his many film commitments before the movie went into production, he could not be part of the ensemble cast.

However, although Willis may not appear on screen with Stallone again, the actor still has a few his final movies to be released. Following the release of Detective Knight: Rogue, Willis will be reprising his title role in Detective Knight: Redemption,

which will be released on December 9, and Detective Knight: Independence, which will be released as Willis’ final movie in 2023. Willis’ other remaining movies are Die Like Lovers,

and Paradise City, which is released on demand today and brings Willis and his Pulp Fiction and Look Who’s Talking co-star John Travolta.

While a run of 25 back-to-back direct-to-video movies may not have been how Bruce Willis expected to end his career, his dedication to packing in as many roles into his final two years before announcing his retirement is nothing short of astounding,

and even though critic reviews have not been great for the movies, the long list of action films have given Willis’ fans a huge collection of movies that show Willis taking on bad guys like its Christmas in the Nakatomi Plaza.
